Water Reservoir Upgrades

The City of Beaumont is planning safety upgrades to the Water Reservoir, beneath an existing basketball court located at the intersection of 57 Street & 48 Avenue. For safety concerns, the administration is recommending to separate the Main Pump-house and reservoir from the general public by removing and relocating the basketball court and replace it with topsoil and sod.

The current roof structure has an asphalt basketball court on top of it without adequate cover, causing undue strain. The roof also requires a membrane to seal the reservoir to the current standard. A structural review of the reservoir will also be completed to look for deformation inside of the holding tank.

The Existing Water Reservoir Area, beneath the existing basketball court:

The yellow dotted line represents the area that will separate the main pump-house and reservoir.

Why are we doing this?

  • Eliminate illegal disturbance of water reservoir concrete cover.
  • Eliminate illegal attempts to open reservoir hatch.
  • The current basketball court has some imperfections. We want to improve safety for residents and basketball court users.
  • Improve Beaumont's facilities.

When are we doing this?

  • Construction of the new basketball court will begin the Summer of 2019 and will take approximately 4 weeks (barring rains).
  • Decommissioning of the existing basketball court will begin once construction of the new basketball court is complete.
